Bono performs in African festival amid terrorist threats

Bono, lead singer of U2, stood in the Desert Festival in Timbuktu, Mali. However, terrorist threats have kept the public away from the musical event.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Bono appeared at the opening night of the festival.

The fame of the rocker was not enough to revive the event, which was an important festival for World Music, attracting thousands of spectators. This year, approximately 300 paying visitors attended.

Organizers attributed the low number of visitors to the operations of the Saharan faction of the terrorist network Al Qaeda, which has lately had a certain fondness for kidnappings of Westerners.

Moreover, the incidents have also committed to international assistance in the region.

According to reports, the audience of the festival consists of three thousand people, including locals and non-paying Sahara Tuareg (nomadic people of the desert), and the small number of international visitors.
