U2, Sting & Trudie Styler, Stephen Fry, Dame Judi Dench and Emma Thompson have donated personal items to be taken to auction to raise funds for the Rainforest Foundation UK. These items will be available to anyone who wants to participate and contribute to a good cause. In an interview with Q magazine, U2 says it has more material for three albums, "We have done a great job with RedOne is shocking .... Michael Stipe I just played songs. He said, 'What? That does not sound U2," said Bono in an interview with Q magazine Bassist Adam Clayton seems to be excited about the new songs. He said they are totally different style that the songs were on the previous album "No line on the horizon" and are experimenting with new sounds with pop producers RedOne, who has worked with other artists like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull and promised a different approach.

Snow Patrol Leader says U2 inspired the band perform live

Gary Lightbody, lead singer and guitarist of the alternative rock band Snow Patrol, said that U2 was an inspiration for them after watching the band's last two tours: Tour and Vertigo Tour 360 º. Rather, he admits that even the most suc playing Snow Patrol they could not have a presence in their live performances, but after seeing what U2 did in the outcast, last years, seems to have gained new ideas. And let's admit that U2 has always been an inspiration to many mega bands with a few years.

Noel Gallagher wants to work with Coldplay and U2

The singer Noel Gallagher, who lost top spot on the charts last weekend for Coldplay's new album, said he was never asked to work with any artist. "I was never invited to do a collaboration. I do not think step one image to work like this. But I like to work with Coldplay and U2, or anyone that sells 50 million albums," he said in an interview with The Sunday Mirror.

Unforgettable Fire at U2 article

Sir -- Barry Egan's article about U2 reflects a whole series of articles in the Sunday Independent about the group. They are rather upsetting to say the least. U2 have done us proud on the world stage. They have made Ireland "sexy". We can be so proud of having a homegrown group that has been the world's No 1 rock band for over 30 years now.

We are as entitled to be proud of U2 as the Swedes are of Abba. It's people like Barry Egan who have us where we are -- talking down our country rather than talking it up!

One would have thought that the culture of knocking Ireland would have dissipated with his generation.

Anything that even hints at a feelgood factor about ourselves is trashed by your paper. The message is that other countries can be proud of themselves but not us. It's the epitome of negative journalism.

U2 reborn two decades

There are those who consider "Achtung Baby" the best album of U2. Published 20 years ago, it sold 20 million copies. To celebrate, the band is hard to relaunch the series in a format where there is no lack of new material and other treats. "Achtung Baby" resulted also in the massive Zoo TV Tour. Launched in November 1991 was the seventh studio album from the band and one that marked a significant change in the sound of the Irish, breaking sharply with the music that until then were organic.There is no shortage of new material retrieved from the archives of "Achtung Baby" and a set of content - video, remixes, B sides and documentary recordings - which can now delight fans. Until there are oculinhos fly. The disc came in the aftermath of the huge success of the second half of the 80, after "The Joshua Tree" (1987) and "Rattle and Hum" (1988) conquered the planet. Now, after all, the quartet chose to compose a new album, but soon realized that the hard work would not be easy. The musicians decided to move for a while, to Berlin, Germany, occupying the Hansa Studios (where Bowie recorded "Heroes" and Nick Cave "Your Funeral My Trial", for example). A new U2 single "Blow Your House Down"

U2 released a single support for the resumption of the 20th anniversary of Achtung Baby. Read more!


"Blow Your House Down," which appears in versions Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Deluxe Uber's Achtung Baby, was sent to North American radio stations as a digital download last week. No one knows the exact date, but sources said that radio was sent before Halloween. The song is also being played on Classic Rock stations and Triple A (Adult Album Alternative).


The launch of a single is not a surprise, but the choice of "Blow Your House Down". Bono had mentioned that he was pressing to have "Even Better Than The Real Thing (Fish Out Of Water Remix)" as a single support the relaunch of Achtung Baby.

Here I'll tell you why I think Where the streets have no name is the best U2 song ever. Especially live, it begins with a range of Edge's guitar riff that slowly grew and grew, until Larry and Adam come to blow up the music and everyone inside the stadium. It was one of the biggest thrills of my life to witness this within the Inner Circle, the U2 concert on 09 April 2011, here in Brazil.

See now what Billboar reported about it U2 opened its wildly anticipated Vertigo tour last night (March 28) at the San Diego Sports Arena, performing seven songs from its latest Interscope album, "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," plus a number of tracks that have not been featured in its live set in years. The 115-minute show opened with new song "City of Blinding Lights" and closed with "40," from the band's 1983 album "War." Beyond the singles "Vertigo" and "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own," the band played "Atomic Bomb" tracks "Love and Peace or Else," "All Because of You" and the meditative "Yahweh," which featured drummer Larry Mullen Jr. on keyboards. But the real treat was the appearance of such back catalog favorites as "The Cry / The Electric Co.," "An Cat Dubh" and "Into the Heart," which were played third through fifth in the set. Launch of "From the Sky Down" in DVD

The documentary "From the sky down," which shows the return of U2 to Hansa Studio in Berlin in commemorating the 20th anniversary of Achtung Baby, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. Probably will be the launch on 09 December. It looks like there will be extra material:

- 3 acoustic performances of the band at Hansa Studio - "So Cruel," "The Fly", "Love Is Blindness".

- 4 minutes of a press conference in Toronto.

After news of the release of remastered editions of the album Achtung Baby, in commemoration of their 20th anniversary, much anxiety was at stake. Much due to the UBER entitled DELUXE EDITION. An edition full of monstrous details, photos, dvds, cds, lps and even a glasses Bono wore in The Fly in the magical tour Zoo Tv. Its price has not pleased some fans, who unfortunately can not buy the issue for now. For example in Brazil, a two-liter Coke cost 5 reais and a UBER cost 1000 reais.

U2 will not end......... yet.

Neil McCormick, a great friend of U2, posted on his blog a review of the current moment of the band and its future. This is thanks to the many false rumors circulating on the network during the last week about a possible end of U2. Read and draw your conclusions, but one thing is certain: U2 will end, but not now, not next year, one day, and that day is still far.

"There has been a lot of internet chatter about whether U2 are breaking up, following comments from Bono in Rolling Stone. He has been talking a lot recently about U2 having been “on the edge of irrelevancy for 20 years” and suggested “We’d be very pleased to end on No Line on the Horizon”. Despite a failure to deliver a hit single and a general perception that it wasn’t a classic, the album has recently reached the five million sales mark, and U2 have just completed the biggest, most technologically ambitious and highest grossing tour in rock history. Q magazine just presented U2 with an award for Greatest Act of the Last 25 years. Might it represent an opportune moment for U2 to bow out?

There is no set process for a band to break up. Usually it happens more or less accidentally and spontaneously, through internal conflict. Often it is accompanied by a decline in popularity and increasing creative divisions. But when you have been together as long as U2 (36 years and counting), and successful throughout your career, a kind of inertia can set in, where the band continues to exist just because, well, it continues to exist.

REM have been widely applauded for their recent decision to disband because of a sense that their best  days were behind them. The Rolling Stones continue despite of it, taking the critical flak to deliver music and entertainment for their massive fan base. You can’t say one is right, and one is wrong – it is each according to his own. But REM are close to U2, and belong to the post punk generation for whom an allegiance to rock bands came with high ideals and a sense of purpose. Talking about REM’s break up on Newsnight this week, Mike Mills explained that “It was an opportunity for us to walk away on our own terms. There are no external forces, no problems, we can walk away as friends and feel like we’ve accomplished everything we wanted to accomplish.”

U2 have certainly accomplished a lot, probably more than they ever dreamt… although they did dream big. I’ve got Bono on tape when Boy came out, in 1980, enthusiastically telling me that one day they would make a record as great as Sergeant Pepper. They’ve been the biggest rock band in the world for much of their career, they have constantly reinvented and reinvigorated themselves musically, done ground breaking and record breaking tours, and been at the centre of political and charitable campaigns that have helped shape the world we live in. I think this is part of the problem, actually, the very cause of the existential crisis the band find themselves in. Bono likes to be at the centre of things, part of the musical, political and cultural conversation. “Lots of people have U2 albums, why they would want another one is a reasonable question,” he admitted recently. “I don’t know if it is possible for us to make something that is current that is meaningful, not just to our audience but to the times we live in. But that’s kind of the job for me.”

U2 have recorded a lot of music over the past couple of years, with a lot of different producers, including new songs with Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton, the cut and paste wizard behind Gnarls Barkley), clubby pop tracks with Red One and meditative, quasi-ambient material with their established team of Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. I would like to hear those records. But there seems to be little sense in the band camp that this is music the world needs right now, something singular and original and powerful enough to stand up with their very best, as big and bold as the sprawling emotion of Unforgettable Fire, the rough hewn rock of The Joshua Tree, the industrial strength invention of Achtung Baby or killer tunes of All That You Can’t Leave Behind. And so they just keep chipping away, in search of that elusive creative breakthrough. But can a band of super rich middle-aged men ever achieve the creative heights of their youth, when making music really seemed like a matter of life or death?

Bono’s conviction that they have to create something world beating every time effectively creates a rod for their own backs. What bands have ever done their greatest and most resonant work in the middle age of their career?  When U2 made their early classics, they worked day and night in pursuit of an ideal, sacrificing personal time and private lives, giving everything to the cause of the music. Inevitably that is not the case any more. They arrange meetings and recording sessions to fit with their increasingly complex personal schedules.  Their fans may still like to believe that U2 live in Ireland and meet in the local pub or prayer meeting (hence the ludicrously inaccurate tax avoidance charge that keep being made against them). In fact, Bono lives mainly in New York now, The Edge in LA, Adam in London and only Larry remains a more or less full time resident of Dublin. They have all (apart from Adam) got wives and children who need time and attention. They have the kind of extreme wealth that ensures fabulous comfort. And Bono, their driving force, finds his time and energy much diluted by his sprawling range of extra-curricular interests and commitments, particularly political and charitable activities that inspire much antagonism in people who think a rock star should be in the business of making rock music. As Bono recognises, “We’re the most loved and the most hated band on Earth” and a lot of the reasons people don’t like them are actually about him – which he says he understands “because I have to live with me too.”

I was supposed interview Bono last week about the 20th anniversary re-release of Achtung Baby but he called it off because he felt he had done enough promotional work, and needed to take a break. He says he is becoming embarrassed by the amount of focus there is on him, as opposed to the rest of the band. It is a running joke that he sympathises with people who are sick of the sound of his voice, because he is too. And he’s plainly worn out. Or as he put it in an apologetic message: “Flat on my back from exhaustion.”

U2’s two year world tour may have finished in the summer but sometimes I think Bono just doesn’t know how to stop. He has continued his ceaseless globetrotting in connection with all his philanthropic, humanitarian and business commitments. He sang at Steve Jobs memorial in California on October 17, met Nicholas Sarkozky in Paris on the 19th as part of a lobbying group for the Global anti-poverty coalition One ahead of the G20, and was in London a few days later with the rest of U2 to pick up their award from Q magazine. It is hardly surprising that he told Rolling Stone his only future plans were to have some time off: “I want to take my young boys and my wife and just disappear with my iPod Nano and some books and an acoustic guitar.” Then on Monday, this week, he was in Dublin, as part of a delegation trying to convince foreign technology companies to invest in Ireland. He is the rock star who can’t say no.

Which is why, personally, I don’t think U2 are likely to do an REM and retire gracefully. If they ever do go, it will be in a blaze of glory or an act of outrageous folly, broken by their singer’s mad ambition. Right now, it is probably fair to say U2 need a break and the world needs a break from them. But U2 fans have heard these hints of disillusion and dissolution before – notably in 1989, after the excesses of Rattle And Hum, when Bono declared they had to “go away and dream it all up again.” They came back with Achtung Baby in 1991, probably their finest moment.

From my experience, what they tend to do is manufacture a sense of crisis to drive them. Edge refers to it as jeopardy, a constant buzzword in his discussions of their creative process. U2 need to feel that there are things at stake when they are writing and recording, deliberately using tension and risk to maintain focus. This, presumably, gets harder the more successful and comfortable individuals get. When Bono declares U2 to be on “the edge of irrelevance”, what he is really doing is raising the stakes for himself and his band, shoving them rudely out  of their comfort zone.

U2 are in temporary retreat while their leader recharges his batteries, but his own self-questioning is not actually an indication of disillusion, but an instigation to action. Fans worrying that Bono’s remarks suggest U2 are about to call it a day could not be more wrong. What he really wants to do, indeed what he feels he needs to do, is for U2 “to go away and create the album of their lives.”

I don’t know if it is possible for a band with their long history to reinvent themselves again. But, like millions of other fans, I want to hear them try."

Happy Birthday, dear Larry!

Today the drummer we love most in the world celebrates 50 years. We owe everything to him. Without Larry would be Bono, Edge, Adam, U2 much less. It's his fault that people were saved thanks to you ad looking for members to form a band at her school in Dublin for over 30 years.

Congratulations, Larry!!!

Saudades

Palavra estranha essa: saudades. Um sentimento forte e triste. Se no lado positivo temos de mais forte o amor, no lado negativo temos saudade. Pode ser de um amigo, de um momento, de uma coisa, de uma comida, de um lugar ou de alguém, e nesse último caso a saudades mostra seu lado mais perverso, mais cruel. Goste, adore ou ame uma pessoa isso é ótimo, mas deixá-la nem que seja por uns dias dói e dói pra valer. E a dor tem seu ponto máximo quando a saudade é de alguém que você ama verdadeiramente. Queremos rapidamente saber se ela está bem, com frio, com sede, o que está fazendo, o que já fez, para onde vai, se precisa de algo, quando na verdade o que ela mais precisa é de mim. E não há sentimento melhor quando matamos as saudades, quando chegamos para aquela pessoa amada e damos um abraço e um beijo. Nos sentimos aliviados, um piano de cauda de madeira maciça saiu de nossas costas. Nesse momento não existe a palavra saudade no dicionário. Mas a dor da despedida é pior que dor de dente elevada  ao cubo, mesmo que você veja a pessoa dali a uns dias. Ver ela indo, fora do seu campo de visão, não sabendo mais se ela esta bem, é muito triste. São poucos aqueles que sabem lidar com a saudade, e não falo de saudades de uma coisa qualquer, tipo saudades da viagem à Paris, mas sim saudades verdadeiras de algo importante, algo que vale a pena lutar e sentir essa saudade para viver feliz posteriormente.

35 anos de perfeição

Ontem, a maior banda de todos os tempos, U2, compleou 35 anos de carreira. E que carreira. O mundo da música se tornou completamente outro quando um jovem de 14 anos chamado Larry Mullen Jr. colocou um anúncio no mural de sua escola, em Dublin no dia 25 de setembro de 1976. O primeiro ensaio foi na cozinha da casa de Larry. Vieram Adam Charles Clayton, David Howell Evans, Paul David Hewson, Dick Evans,o irmão de David e mais um para formar uma banda de rock. Por pouquíssimo tempo a banda se chamou The Larry Mullen Band, mas logo mudaram para Feedback, depois The Hype e finalmente U2. Saíram dois integrantes da banda, entre eles Dick, e restou a formação que a banda U2 leva até hoje:
